ARPECDOURO, sponsored the ISIZA2016 event in the Church of Santa Maria, designed by the renowned architect Portuguese, Siza Vieira.
The event was attended by several experts in the field of architecture, history and theology, who met to discuss the theme ‘Architecture of the Sacred’. The main purpose of the event was to raise funds for the church and highlight the importance of religious architecture.
The church of Santa Maria is an example of minimalist and functionalist architecture, which is one of the main features of Siza Vieira’s work. Located in Marco de Canaveses, this church is known for its simple and elegant geometric shape, highlighting the intelligent use of natural light and the careful choice of building materials. The visit to this architectural icon is a must for those who pass through the locality.
The event was attended by more than a hundred people, including architects, theologians and historians, who took the opportunity to discuss different approaches to religious architecture. The event was also attended by Siza Vieira himself, who shared his own ideas and experiences in the area. In addition to ARPECDOURO, other important entities, such as the Municipality of Marco de Canaveses, the Parish Council of Marco and the Tourism Entity of Porto and Northern Portugal also supported the event. The initiative was very positive, with the participants having the unique opportunity to exchange ideas and get to know the work of one of the most renowned architects of today.
